What happens if I pay full price for the live event, but the workshop switches to an online version instead due to COVID-19?

In the event that a couple pays full-price for the live workshop in advance, but GJB Health Services decides to alter the event to a virtual platform for safety reasons, couples will be reimbursed. The option to receive hardcopy materials is available to couples if they choose. Please request to do so.

Notification will be distributed to registered couples as soon as possible regarding any updates.

Can I register for the online version and not the live workshop?

Yes. Couples must contact GJB Health Services directly to register and purchase the online version. Please contact (920) 560-4525 to state that you wish to bypass participating in a live-event and would like to follow the online process.

What do I need to know or do before signing up for the online version?

The cost of the online course is $200.00. Gloria Bannasch will sign you and your partner up via The Gottman Institute, for The Art and Science of Love Workshop Online course. Information about how to access the online course will arrive via email. You will create an account on Gottman.com, which will allow you to download the material. There are no prerequisites to register.

What is the structure of the online workshop?

The workshop is divided into 8 parts and includes videos and exercises to be practiced as a couple on your own. It is a self-paced online training so it can be completed at your own speed. Couples will view the content for each part, practice the exercises at home, and finally, a follow-up session with Gloria Bannasch, LPC will take place after each part. Opportunities to ask questions, discuss the content, and practice the exercises with Gloria’s assistance will take place at the follow-up sessions. Follow-up sessions are intended for 90-120 minutes.

What is the content of the workshop and when can it be accessed?

The content exists from a live 2019 pre-recorded Art and Science of Love workshop. There are over 20 videos, over 12 exercises, several handouts, and a PDF version of the Couple’s Manual. The videos and exercises are divided into 8 parts. All content can be immediately accessed after an online account with The Gottman Institute is completed.

What are the exercises like?

The exercises are the same ones that are completed in the live workshop. Couples are strongly encouraged to try them at home after viewing the videos in each part. Another opportunity to practice the exercises in the follow up session will take place.

Who are the instructors in the videos?

Drs. John and Julie Gottman present the research regarding how to make relationships successful. Instructions for each exercise will be given after the video in each section.

Are CEs available?

No, CEs are not offered for this workshop. Only better relationship skills!

How long do couples have to complete the online workshop?

It is recommended that couples complete at least one part and one follow-up session weekly. While it is preferable that follow-up sessions occur after each part, it is not absolutely necessary. Couples can view the content and schedule the follow-up sessions as soon as possible. Unlimited access is available to the content after it is purchased.

How will the follow-up sessions differ from regular couples’ therapy sessions?

Follow-up sessions are psycho-educational in nature. The content of a follow-up session is dictated by the video content completed earlier that week. The focus will be on the couple as they learn the exercises, not on “solving problems”.

How long are the videos?

The online workshop is roughly 8 hours total. The time required to view the videos in each part is approximately 1.5 – 3 hours.

Do my partner and I need to be in Gottman method couples therapy to take the online workshop?

No; however, it is helpful to have a therapist available to answer questions, facilitate exercises, assist to identify patterns, and help couples apply newly learned skills.

What kind of computer skills do I need?

In order to be successful with this workshop, couples must have either a computer, tablet, or mobile device. It is recommended to use browsers such as Chrome or Firefox, for best viewing results. Does the workshop come with printed manuals?

No. The workshop comes with a downloadable PDF and electronic materials. The content between the live and online workshop is the same; the difference is electronic versus hardcopy. Couples need to request to have the hardcopy materials sent to them if they choose.
